Volunteer Opportunities

At Curry we have many ongoing volunteer opportunities, requiring a variety of skills and time commitments. Feel free to look through the volunteer descriptions below. Meal Site Volunteer

Every day over 175 seniors are served breakfast and lunch at Curry Senior Center. For seniors, meal time is not only for eating but for socializing and simply getting out of the small rooms or apartments residents of the Tenderloin call home. One to five volunteers are needed each day to assist kitchen staff in serving breakfast and lunch. The breakfast hours are 7:30am-9:30am, and the lunch hours are 10:30am to 12:30pm. Your group may choose to do either one or both shifts on the day of your choice. Please contact kpower@curryseniorcenter.org for more information.

Program Activity Assistant

Curry Senior Center hosts monthly parties for its clients, and we are always looking for volunteers to contribute time and resources towards throwing a party for our seniors. Small groups of volunteers are needed from 9:30am-12:30pm on the following dates to help host parties that are already planned. Volunteers will be responsible for serving lunch, hosting games and activities, and assisting with clean up on the following dates:

Russian Festival, September 23rd, 2010
Halloween Party, October 29th, 2010

Clinic Receptionist/Assistant

Assist with front-desk duties. Answer incoming phone calls in a polite, professional manner. Take messages and route calls. Meet and greet clients and visitors. Assist Office Manager whenever help is needed.

Party Planning Volunteers

Party Planning Volunteers Volunteers also have the opportunity to plan and host their own parties for Curry clients. Many Curry seniors live alone and frequent events provide them with the important opportunity to socialize. Like Event Volunteers, Party Planning Volunteers are responsible for hosting the party, but are also in charge of planning the party as well. Parties are planned off site, and volunteers are responsible for choosing the theme, date, activities, menu etc. On the day of the event, volunteers are expected to socialize with seniors and act as the primary hosts of the party.
