Dr. Curry’s Mission

"To provide services to seniors that promote independent living while maintaining their dignity and self-esteem."

Dr. Francis Curry, a native San Franciscan who grew up in the Tenderloin, founded this agency in 1972 with colleagues in the world of social service. Back then, it was a storefront clinic serving independent, low-income seniors in the Tenderloin, with one doctor and one nurse from the Department of Health.

Today, at Curry Senior Center we serve 2,600 seniors within a central city area stretching from Potrero Hill to lower Nob Hill and from the San Francisco Bay to Van Ness Avenue. We provide primary care at our medical clinic and through home visits to clients, case management for those who want it, substance abuse counseling, social and educational opportunities, and breakfast and lunch daily for seniors. In late 2003, we opened a new facility for our social programs and permanent housing for 13 formerly homeless seniors. Throughout our history, Dr. Curry’s mission statement has been our driving force.
